Cathy Mockett

Cathy Mockett, 22, scored four birdies and an eagle in the final match, and defeated Barbara Blanchar, 22, by 5 and 4, to win the Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. Miss Mocket, a senior at the University of Tulsa, won the first three holes, and then built a six-hole lead with an eagle 3 on the 12th hole. She was five under par when the match ended, on the 14th hole.

Competing in her first WAPL championship, Miss Mockett qualified for match play with 154, eight strokes behind medallist Debbit Echroth, who shot 146. However, Miss Eckroth and the three other lowest scorers in stroke play were defeated in the first round of match play. Miss Mockett advanced by winning her first and second rounds easily, and then rallied to win by one hole over both Jennifer Holt and Lori stinson. Miss Mockett was the U.S. Girls' Junior champion in 1984. She was also named second alternate to the 1990 U.S. Curtis Cup team.
