Pearl Sinn
Pearl Sinn, 20, of Bellflower, California, defeated Tami Jo Henningsen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, 2 and 1, in the final at Page Belcher Golf Course in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lee Ann Hammack of Oklahoma City earned the qualifying medal at two-under-par 142, tying a championship record. Her second-round 68 was the lowest 18-hole score ever posted at the Women's APL.
Hammack was eliminated in the quarterfinal round by Stacey Arnold of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, on the 19th hole. Sinn defeated Arnold, 6 and 5, in the semifinals. Henningsen advanced to the final by ousting Michelle Estill of Scottsdale, Arizona, 4 and 3. Through eight holes of the final, Sinn held a two-hole advantage, extending her string of holes without a bogey to 35. That skein ended when both players bogeyed the par-5 ninth. Henningsen squared the match when she birdied the par-4 10th and par-5 11th holes. After the 12th was halved with pars, Sinn regained the lead with birdies on the 13th and 14th holes.
Both players parred the par-4 15th before lightning forced play to be suspended briefly. After the 16th was halved, Sinn closed out the match by sinking a 20-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th. The Tulsa, Oklahoma, team of Hammack, Shana Radford and Alycya Rambin won the Team Championship by four strokes over Sacramento, California. The USGA accepted a record 1,052 entries for the championship.
