Nirapathpongporn, Allen and Cho in WAPL Semifinals
Palm Coast , Fla. – Thirteen-year-old
Michelle Wie advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur
Public Links Championship Saturday morning at the par-72, 6,068-yard
course at Ocean Hammock Golf Club. Wie defeated U.S. Women’s Amateur
Champion Becky Lucidi in the quarterfinals, 6 and 5.
In
the afternoon semifinal match, she meets Aimee Cho, of Orlando , Fla.
Cho defeated Hannah Jun, of Monterey , Calif. , in the morning match,
6 and 4.
In
the other semifinal, Virada Nirapathpongporn , of Thailand , faces
Beth Allen , of San Diego , Calif. Nirapathpongporn defeated D’Rae
Ward, of Weatherford , Texas , in the quarterfinal, 4 and 3. Allen
defeated Tarah McNaughton , of Bradenton , Fla. , 3 and 2.
None
of the four players have ever won a USGA championship.
The
Women’s Amateur Public Links, one of 13 championships conducted by
the United States Golf Association, concludes Sunday with a 36-hole
final.
