Pearl Sinn, 21, won her second consecutive Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, defeating 19-year-old Kelli Akers, 2 and 1, in the final. One hole down after the ninth, Miss Sinn won holes 10 through 12 with an eagle and two birdies.

She reached the final for the third straight year by defeating Michelle Estill, her teammate at Arizona State, 1-up, in a semifinal match on a ruling on the final hole that went against Miss Estill. The ruling stemmed from Miss Estill's moving a tree branch in her attempt to recover from trouble off the 18th fairway.

The Committee's ruling added a penalty stroke to her score, giving her a bogey on the final hole. In her first three matches, Miss Sinn was never extended to the 17th hole. She won those early matches by scores of 3 and 2, 6 and 5, and 5 and 4. She and Curtis Strange, who won the U.S. Open, were the only two to repeat as USGA champions in 1989.
