Tracy Kerdyk, 21, of Coral Gables, Florida, defeated pearl Sinn
of Bellflower, Florida, 4 and 3, at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club
in Lemont, Illinois. Sinn shot 148, four over par, to earn the qualifying
medal, two strokes better than Kerdyk. Kerdyk and Sinn each survived
one extra hole match on the way to the final. Kerdyk defeated Melissa
Farr of Phoenix on the 19th hole in the semifinal round.
In the final, Kerdyk birdied the second to take a one-hole advantage,
but her bogey at the fourth squared the match. An eagle at the fifth
and a winning par at the eighth gave Kerdyk a two-hole edge. Sinn
won the ninth with par and the 11th with bogey to pull even again.
Kerdyk sank a four-foot birdie putt to win the 12th and won the
13th with a par to regain her two-hole advantage. At the 14th, she
sank a 60-foot chip for par and, when Sinn missed her par putt,
Kerdyk was 3 up. A birdie at the par-5 15th sealed the match. The
11th WAPL Team Championship was won by Miami.
The team of Kerdyk and Sanders combined for a 303 total, two strokes
ahead of the Los Angeles team and eight better than Indianapolis.
The USGA accepted 952 entries for the championship.
