Nancy Taylor, 22, of Phoenix, Arizona, won the Women's Amateur Public
Links Championship by defeating Kerri Clark, of North Las Vegas,
Nevada, 2 and 1, at the Alvamar Golf Club, in Lawrence, Kansas.
Miss Taylor became only the fourth different champion in the event's
six-year history, and, at 22, was the oldest winner.
Defending Champion Mary Enright, of San Leandro, California, qualified
easily with 154, but she was defeated in the second round by Linda
McEwen, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, 3 and 2. Lori Castillo, of Honolulu,
Champion in 1979 and 1980, qualified at 155, but lost in the first
round to Ann Walsh, of Walnut Creek, California, 2 and 1.
The Portland, Oregon, team of Linda McEwen, Kareen Gibson, and
Renee MacDonald won the Team Trohpy with 476, four strokes ahead
of the team from Phoenix, Arizona. The Championship drew a record
760 entries, exceeding the previous record of 728 received for the
1980 Championship at the Center Square (Pa.) Golf Club.
