Jessica Reese Takes Early Lead in U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Qualifying

Sunriver, Oregon – Jessica Reese, 21, of Santa Rosa, Calif., fired a record-tying single round of 66 to take the lead among early qualifiers in the 26th U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship.

Reese made one bogey and six birdies on the 6,189-yard, par 71 Meadows Course of the Sunriver Resort for a 36-hole total of 142. With half the field still on the course, she takes the early lead for medalist honors. The record of 66 was set in qualifying in 1992 by Heather Hughes and was tied in 1994 by Jill McGill.

Katherine Hoey, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., withdrew because of illness after yesterday’s opening round of 75.

Following today’s second stroke-play round, the field will be cut to the low 64 players, who will advance to match play. The Women’s Amateur Public Links winds up Sunday with a 36-hole final match.
