Medalist Jessica Reese Ousted in First Round of U.S. Women's Amateur Public LinksSunriver, Ore. -- Jessica Reese, medalist in the 36-hole stroke play qualifying Wednesday, lost her opening match Thursday to Sunny Oh, Torrance, Calif., who snagged the last spot among 64 qualifiers in the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
Oh defeated Reese, 9 and 7, on the 6,189-yard, par 71 Meadow Course of the Sunriver Resort.
Other first-round winners included the youngest qualifiers, Michelle Wie, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mina Harigae, of Monterey, Calif. Both are 12 years old. Wie defeated Janell Howland, of Beaumont, Texas, 5 and 4, and Harigae defeated Leslie Green, of The Woodlands, Texas, 3 and 2.
Second-round matches are underway this afternoon.
