Heather Farr, 19, of Scottsdale, Arizona, won her second USGA Championship
by defeating Kristie Kolacny, of Grand Junction, Colorado, 3 and
2, at the Meadowbrook Golf Course, in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Miss Far, the 1982 Girls' Junior champion, was medalist, with 144.
Miss Kolacny's qualifying score was 13 strokes higher than Mis Farr's.
The final amounted to an all-Arizona matchup; Miss Farr is the
No. 1 player for Arizona State University and Miss Kolacny is the
top player on the University of Arizona team. Miss Farr won the
first hole with a par, but Miss Kolacny was ahead by one hole with
six to play. Miss Farr won the next four holes.
The Athens, Georgia, taem of Cindy Schreyer, Lori Gaffney and
Kathe Kingston won the Team Trophy, with 308, three strokes better
than Phoenix. Thirty-two teams competed.
