One year after being eliminated by Nancy Taylor, Kelli Antolock, 21, of Port Angeles, Washington, won the Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, by defeating Miss Taylor, of Phoenix, Arizona, the defending Champion, 1 up, at the Ala Wai Golf Course, in Honolulu.

Miss Antolock stood 2 up after 11 holes of the final, but Miss Taylor fought back to square the match at the 14th. Miss Antolock won the 17th when Miss Taylor's wind-blown approach shot bounced over the green. Her pitch stopped eight feet short and she missed the put. Both players bogeyed the home hole, preserving Miss Antolock's winning margin. Penny Hammel, of Decatur, Illinois, won the qualifying medal, with a 143 total, establishing a new record by five strokes.

Marci Bozarth, of Fort Worth, Texas, set a new single-round record, with 70, on the second day of qualifying. The Chicago, Illinois, team of Miss Hammel, Jennifer reego, and Jacqueline, Ryan won the Team Trophy with 297, seven strokes ahead of Phoenix, Arizona. Twenty-eight teams competed. The Championship drew a record 1,008 entries, surpassing the previous high of 760, set in 1982.
